Step #1 - Enter Your Information

We need to know who and where we are supplying the utilities to. We don't need too much information, just the basics. Don't know your home/business site ID? No problem, your address will do just fine!

Step #2 - Select Your Services

Select which services (electricity, natural gas and internet) you'd like us to provide to your home/business (we recommend all three as that's where you'll see the most cost savings) and what day you'd like us to make the switch (you will experience no interruption in your utilities during the switch).

Step #3 - Add Payment Method

Lastly, submit the sign-up form! After your form has been submitted, you will immediately be taken to a secure page where you'll be able provide your payment method of choice (direct debit/credit card). Once your payment method is approved, sit back and let us handle the rest!

 How do I sign up?

Click on the "get started" button on the main page and fill out the application form online. It will ask for your name, address, and email address. Then choose your desired utilities. You will then receive a follow up email asking for your preferred method of payment. We offer both pre-authorized debit and credit card as methods of payment, though we do prefer pre-authorized debit. Once that payment method is confirmed, you will receive an email that your application is being processed, and another email letting you know your energy is now live! It really is that easy!

 What are your natural gas rates?

Our natural gas rates are calculated as the cost of natural gas sold into the NGX, plus $0.95/GJ.

 What are your electricity rates?

Our electricity rates are calculated as the cost of electricity sold by the generators into the Alberta Power Pool, plus $0.0095/kWh.

Do I need the site ID Number for my electricity or natural gas service to sign up?

No, if you do not have this information from your current bill, we can find it for you.

What are my options for internet and what are the costs?

All internet customers are required to pay a small activation fee of $95.95 at the start of their service. This amount will be credited back to the customer after 1 year of internet service.

Customers have the ability to rent, purchase, or use their own router/modem for internet.

The cost of renting is $9.95 per month.
The cost of purchasing is $170 (Speed 30 - 300) or $244.65 (Speed 1000).

There is a $16.00 shipping fee for customers who choose to rent or purchase their router/modem.

Our available internet service plans are shown below (each plan includes unlimited data).

    Speed 30  -  ($45.95 per month)
    Speed 75  -  ($55.95 per month)
    Speed 150  -  ($75.95 per month)
    Speed 300  -  ($85.95 per month)

 Are there any sign-up fees?

There are NO sign up fees. There is a small activation fee for our internet service of $99, but this is credited back to your account after one year.

 Are there any cancellation fees?

There are no fees or penalties associated with cancelling your services with Utility Simple. We just ask that you please give us a minimum of 10 business days notice.

 Am I locked into a contract?

You are not locked into a contract. You are free to leave at any point provided you give us a minimum of 10 business days notice.

Do you offer different payment options?

Pre-authorized debit from a checking account is our preferred method of payment. But, we do also accept credit card payments from our customers.

How much are your distribution and transmission fees?

Distribution fees, transmission fees, and related charges are set by the distribution company in your area and regulated by the government. There is only one distribution company for each service in your area. When switching to Utility Simple that portion of your bill remains the same since it will still be the same network of pipes or wires delivering those services to your home.

 Do you offer fixed rates?

We’ve done our analysis and have found that fixed rates typically cost a customer more over the long run. This is why we only offer variable rates.

What if I am currently on a contract with another utility provider?

We would be happy to take you on as a customer, but you should first check the terms of your contract as they may have a penalty or early exit fee if you cancel before your contract expiry date. Some of our customers have found it made economic sense to pay the penalty as they saved more in a short period of time based on our lower energy rates. If you are unsure whether paying the penalty would be financially beneficial, give us a call and we can help.

Will my service reliability be affected if I switch utility providers?

No, your service reliability will not be affected. The electricity or natural gas will continue to come to your home or business, through the same network of pipes or wires. By law, the local utility company is not allowed to provide different care levels to customers who have chosen an alternate supplier. You will continue to receive the same level of delivery quality, emergency response and meter reading.
